Wor. Matthew D. Dupee, a Past Master of Shiloh Lodge #558, Free and Accepted Masons, in Lansdale, PA presented a paper entitled “King Solomon and the Iron Worker: John Sartain, Artist and Freemason" during our September 29 Convocation. Some of you may be familiar with this picture which depicts a discussion between King Solomon and an ironworker who has, uninvited, taken a place of honor at the Temple’s dedication ceremonies. You may view it at http://www.philaprintshop.com/images/sartsolo.jpg.

Wor. Brother Dupee, a lawyer by profession, was raised in Shiloh Lodge by his father, Bernard H. Dupee, PM in April 1982, and later, served as WM in 1989. Since then he has been active in the bodies of the York Rite and Scottish Rite both locally and nationally. In 1999, Brother Dupee led a team in the production of the Tools of the Craft video series used by lodges for Masonic instruction throughout Pennsylvania.

Our own Past Master, Dr. Roger Firestone presented a short paper on “The Albigensian Crusade and the Templars.” The Wikipedia says of this Crusade; “ Innocent III's diplomatic attempts to roll back Catharism met with little success, he declared a crusade against Languedoc, offering the lands of the schismatics to any French nobleman willing to take up arms. The violence, extreme even by medieval standards, led to France's acquiring of lands with closer cultural and linguistic ties to Catalonia.”
